Cache County Sheriff's Mounted Posse

The Cache County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse is a riding club that represents the Cache County Sheriff’s Office. The members of our group love horses and the outdoors and have a desire to serve our community. The CCMP has been an active organization in this county since at least 1960. We can have up to 25 active members, and we have about 10 retired members who still participate in varying degrees from attending monthly business meetings, to riding in parades or helping with fundraisers. Our active members range in age from mid-20’s to approaching retirement age consisting of men, women, and several married couples. While most of our members live in Cache County, we also have members from Franklin and Box Elder counties. The Mounted Posse is a volunteer organization. Although some of the equipment and uniforms are provided by the Posse through fundraisers, each member is required to have a horse that is broke to ride, the necessary tack, and transportation for themselves and their horse to get to various functions. All of the members' time and most of their expense is voluntary and comes out of their pockets.

Our members are required to attend monthly membership meetings, monthly training classes, and a weekly ride night year-round. We represent the Sheriff's Office as we ride in several parades during the summer and perform security duties for a variety of activities throughout the valley including Baby Animal Days and the Harvest Festival at the American West Heritage Center, the Cache County Fair and Rodeo, Summer Fest, Logan's Run, and the Top of Utah Marathon.

We have been called on by the Sheriff's Office several times to search for and/or help rescue lost or injured people in the backcountry or areas where motorized vehicle access is limited. We have also assisted the Sheriff’s office in law enforcement duties by standing guard over or securing a crime scene and by riding the backcountry looking for illegal activities and criminal operations.

We have four fundraisers each year. In conjunction with Cache County Search and Rescue and the Cache County Sheriff's Deputies Association, we sponsor three demolition derbies each summer as well as managing a food and hamburger booth at the Cache County Fair in the fall, where we are well known for our Posse burgers.

The money we make at the fundraisers is used to fund our organization needs, help provide equipment, uniforms, and training, and to cover expenses for our philanthropic activities throughout the county.
