Within the sheriff's office, there are six executive administrators that consist of the Sheriff, Chief Deputy, Captain and three Lieutenants. Depending on the size and type of an agency, a sheriff's office could have several Chief Deputies and an Under Sheriff. Some agencies will just have one Chief Deputy or Under Sheriff. The chief Deputy is a political appointment made by the sheriff. The Sheriff can appoint anyone with in the office or he can even appoint someone outside of the office or a civilian. Any of these positions are second in command of the agency when the Sheriff is unavailable.

Information Officer and Commendation Committee. The Chief Deputy also oversees the Annual Awards Banquet and Citizen Academy. The duties are very closely related to what the Sheriff does, but also to be the Sheriff's Public Relations advisor in order to promote the Sheriff and his deputies to the public. The Chief Deputy must have a good working knowledge of the entire office in order to take over when the Sheriff is unavailable. |
